CANCELLED Making Moccasins

Sun Apr 11, 2021 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

Ready to learn a new skill? Join Lois Foster for a full day workshop to learn the art of moccasin making! Lois participated in a program called Katimavik, where she travelled to different regions of Canada, working and volunteering in a wide variety of community programs. While in Northern Ontario, she learned to make moccasins from the Native people of that region. Lois has made many pairs of moccasins and mukluks, for indoor and outdoor use, summer and winter wear, small and large sizes, fur-cuffed and beaded. She has been instructing since the mid 1980’s. Now, mostly retired from her teaching career, she is doing workshops, working with homeschool groups in outdoor education, sharing her gifts and talents, and, surprise, surprise, learning new skills!

This is for basic moccasin making, a prerequisite for mukluks, lined, fur-cuffed, or beaded moccasin making. Classes will be held for 2- 5 students at a cost of $160/person for the day. Included: tanned hide for moccasin body, leather lacing, pattern making, needles and sinew for stitching, all instruction and assistance to complete the project in one day. Bring your own lunch.
