Let's get wild in winter .... on snowshoes. This weekend is full of snowshoe adventures. We are kicking off the weeeknd with with "A Story of Snowshoes" presented at the Haliburton Highlands Museum on Friday January 25th from 7-9pm. Hear the stories behind a remarkable collection of heritage snowshoes and some amazing snowshoe treks. You will talk the walk with Craig MacDonald, historian and retired outdoor recreation specialist from Algonquin Park. Admission by donation
On Saturday there will be Snowshoe Race & Winter Fun Day at Abbey Gardens on Saturday January 26th from 11am-4pm. Abbey Gardens is hosting this event for the Ontario Cup Snowshoe Race season! Register here for a 5km, 10km or family fun race. After your exhilarating racing experience, racers receive a complimentary lunch from Abbey Gardens! Then stick around for horse-drawn sleigh rides (rides must be pre-booked, register here), outdoor skating, snowman-building and more in the afternoon.
On Saturday January 26th from 2pm-4pm, Yours Outdoors is offering a series of guided snowshoes after the sanctioned races at Abbey Gardens. Choose between 4 unique treks: Tree Time, Come Wander with Lois, the Hidden Life of Snowden Park and Fabulous Falls. $10/person payable to hike leader
